According to an article published today (Apr. 9) by the Lovely Professional University (LPU), Dr. Douglas, accompanied by the Federation’s High Commissioner to London, Kevin M. Isaac, and Antigua’s Foreign Affairs Minister Asot Michael visited that institution of higher learning to explore bilateral collaborative efforts for the promotion of education.

The article stated that during his two-hour long visit to the campus, Dr. Douglas met with the Chairman of Lovely Group, Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Naresh Mittal, Chancellor of LPU Ashok Mittal and Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramesh Kanwar.

He and members of his delegation had also interacted with the faculty and students on their visit to different departments of the university.

Expressing his happiness, the article quoted Dr. Douglas who exclaimed, “Education is going in a very extended and novel form in India and this great country has been becoming the Education Hub of the world. We also anticipate how India can be a patron to Caribbean country for promotion of IT Education and in set up of Information Technology.”

He further said: “In fact, for any country education is its great strength. India is investing a lot on education sector and related infra-structure. That is why, education is seeing its phenomenal growth in the country, which in turn is continuously attracting more and more of students from different countries of all the continents of the world.”

In welcoming Dr. Douglas, Chancellor Mittal said, “We are very glad to receive Prime Minister Dr. Douglas at the campus on request. The visit by a person of his caliber, who has made history by being the first Caribbean Leader to receive the Gandhi-King-Ikeda Peace Award and who has many other honours to his credit, is indeed a proud moment for us….His visit will certainly be fruitful towards opportunities for both countries in working together in collaborative areas of mutual interests.”

The article also stated that PM Douglas is working hard for the Federation’s significant potential in varied areas and that he is also “aspirant in seeing improvement for trade and economic relations between the two countries. It is worth noticing that Dr Douglas is an outstanding graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and is also the recipient of a Legacy Award from the American Foundation of the University of the West Indies in New York”.

PM Douglas had winged out of St. Kitts last Tuesday (Apr. 3) on an Official Working Visit to India, where he had visited the Golden Temple of Amritsar in the Punjab state and was a guest of honour at a Business Banquet.

At the Business Banquet hosted at Batch Castle in Ludhiana, which is the capital of Punjab state, the PM met with over 100 Indian industrialists and business personnel to discuss the possibilities of developing partnerships between the business communities in India and St. Kitts and Nevis.

A press release from the Communications Office of the Prime Minister (CUOPM) had stated that “at the end of the evening, a delegation of 20 business people met with Prime Minister Douglas to express their desire to undertake a visit to St. Kitts and Nevis to map out possible partnerships in the areas of tourism, renewable energy, tourism, financial services and manufacturing”.
