Love will help children survive in a hash world Nevis’ Legal Advisor tells parents

Legal Advisor in the Nevis Island Administration Mr. Patrice Nisbett
CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (JUNE 26, 2008) -- Legal Advisor in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) Mr. Patrice Nisbett admonished parents to love their children since it was the only way they could survive the hash impact of the world.

Mr. Nisbett who stood in for Area Representative Hon. Robelto Hector, issued the call at the 25th annual graduation ceremony of the Charlestown Pre School on June 24, 2008. The institution which was the first government owned school of its kind to have been established on the island passed out 28 students at the ceremony.

“Parents love your children, they need a great deal of love to survive the hash impact of this world … You are the most important persons to provide the love and care for your children. Spend time to teach your children moral values, spend time listening to your children’s problems and try to help them solve the problems.

“You are always the significant other for your children; no one can take the place of your mom or dad. When children can get enough love from you they would not have to go out there searching for it in the wrong places. They will feel that the world is always meaningful for them and they will try to show their love to the people around them too,” he said.

Mr. Nisbett contended that an important factor in the construction of a perfect world for the children was the provision of a safe environment for their upbringing.   ~~Adz:Right~~

A lawyer by profession, Mr. Nisbett said that in today’s world there were many reports of child abuse, an act which he said brought to bear negative side effects to children. He cautioned parents to be careful with the types of persons they allowed around their children.

“Children who grow up being abused tend to abuse their younger ones when they grow up because they learn that such activity is something acceptable within the society.

“Parents be very careful with who are around your children, find out where the gifts and money are coming from. Be aware of Sugar Daddies. A world where there is no discipline is chaotic, so you are called upon to discipline your children. You can be loving yet firm. There is too much violence in the schools and it is spilling over in the communities,” he said.

The Legal Advisor further indicated, that there were parents who were afraid to discipline their children, yet one wondered where the society went wrong. He told parents they should discipline their children and if they do so from an early age there would be no need to discipline them when they grew up.

Another strong foundation pillar he pointed to was the family alter. Mr. Nisbett told parents too that they should find time to read and study the word of God, attend church and Sunday School with their children because a family which prayed together stayed together.

He told parents of the importance to teach children to be obedient, respectful to others and what work meant.

“Teach your children the importance of work. Let them know at an early age that whatever they want in life one has to work hard to get it. Teach your children the meaning of work. If you instill in them the importance of work when they leave secondary school there would be no problem. They would just go out there in the world of work and do an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay,” he said.

Notwithstanding, Mr. Nisbett told the granduands that they implore their moral, intellectual and behavioral patterns in the years ahead and resolve to take the candle of love of country, love of mankind, love of self and love of God to a higher level, to light their island home (Nevis) and hence the world.
