    Youth march and rally organizer Francil Morris.

    , St. Kitts (February 17, 2005): Approximately 600 young people are scheduled to take to the streets of Basseterre tomorrow to commemorate Youth Month and promote volunteerism.
     
    Youth Month is annually observed in February. This years theme is Youth: Discovering Our True Potential Through Volunteerism.
     
    Students from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions along with members of the Boys Brigade, Boys Scouts and Nurses will traverse the route, which begins at the tamarind tree at Greenlands and heads eastwards along Cayon Street. The marchers will head down Church Street across Liverpool Row up Fort Street then down West Independence Square Street. Ranks of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and Fire and Rescue Services will also participate in the march which begins at 2:00 p.m.
     
    The march will culminate at the western section of Independence Sqaure where a rally will be held. Director of Youth Geoffrey Hanley as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth Hon. Sam Condor will address the gathering at the rally. 
     
    Antigua and Barbudas Minister of Youth Hon. Winston Williams will be the guest speaker at the rally.
     
    Youth march and rally organizer Francil Morris told SKNIS that entertainment by young people will be featured at the event.
     
    Well have the Junior Calypso King Oval Lake aka Mighty Junior, who is also the OECS Calypso King singing his song on violence on crime, he said. The renowned Sandy Point High School choir, Cayon High School steel pan and the Washington Archibald High fifers and drummers will also perform at the rally. Additionally, the Basseterre High School orchestra and individual performances by Shakera Wattley and Yaniq Mills are scheduled.

    At the same time persons can wander over to the Youth Expo, which will also be held in the square. Director Hanley said healthy lifestyles and volunteerism will be the focus of this activity.
     
    A number of agencies including the emergency services will have display booths. National Bank will stress the importance of having financial security for children at its booth while Carnival and the St. Music Festival is the focus for the Festivals Secretariat.
     
     
    Mr. Morris encouraged the general public to go out and support the activities. Giving your support will speak volumes to the young people, he said. We have always heard that action speaks louder than words and we are looking for an action oriented society when it comes to the young people & to show that you care about them.
