~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE creation of a collection of five new denominations of postage stamps is expected to be one of the highlights of the Federation’s 25th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

The announcement was made on Monday in the post cabinet briefing after the Federal Cabinet met on that day.

“At today’s Cabinet meeting, it was agreed that five new denominations of postage stamps featuring agriculture, economic advancement and our political evolution be published to coincide with the celebrations. The designs chosen for the stamp collection were submitted by members of the public who responded to the invitation to participate in the stamp design competition.”

The briefing also informed that the selected theme for the celebrations is, “Pride, Development, Progress – Independence”.

It also stated that a committee was instituted to deal with the organisation of the celebrations.  This committee began working since late last year.

“Cabinet received an update on the work of the 25th anniversary Independence celebrations committee that has been installed to plan the silver jubilee independence celebrations. The committee commenced its work in December 2007 and has been organised into a number of distinct sub-committees responsible for a variety of events. Government has emphasised the centrality of our independence to the continued advancement of our society and believes that every citizen should be proud to take part in the celebrations.”
