Two fined, two bailed on marijuana charges

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO men were last week convicted and fined for possession of cannabis and two others were arrested, charged and subsequently bailed for possession of the same prohibited drug. 

     

    Convicted and fined were Cayon villagers Marcus Hunkins and Jermaine Bussue.

     

    Both men appeared at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court before Her Worship Simone Bullen-Thompson on Monday (Apr. 16) and Hunkins was fined EC$400 to be paid in two weeks, and if in default would have to serve 14 days in Her Majesty’s Prison, while Bussue was fined EC$650 to be paid in two months or serve a one-month imprisonment.

     

    Hunkins was found in possession of a quantity of cannabis on February 9, 2012 in Cayon Village and on Monday (Apr. 16) police arrested and charged Bussue for possession of cannabis found on his person whilst on Central Street.

     

    At about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday (Apr. 15), Police arrested Lejal Matthew of La Guerite for possession of cannabis. He was later charged and subsequently bailed to the tune of EC$5 000 with two sureties.

     

    And Marcel Jeffers, also of La Guerite, was arrested and charged at the same time and date as Matthew for possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

     

    He too was bailed to the tune of EC$5 000 with two sureties and has to appear at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012.
