Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 17, 2005): The nearly complete reservoir located at White House, St. Peters, will increase and regulate the piped water supply to the area.

This is according to Water Services Manager/Engineer Mr. Cromwell Williams who said that the reservoir should be complete by the end of February.  He explained that the reservoir would serve the New Road and Douglas area and has a capacity of 100,000 gallons.  He said that once the supply becomes more stable and reliable, the water pressure would be less, thus placing less strain on the plumbing of houses in the area.

Mr. Williams further noted that this reservoir is among several being constructed around the island under the Water Supply Improvement Project.  He said thus far reservoirs have been completed in Cayon, Olivees, and Mourne Peak - Frigate Bay.  The Water Manager also informed that next reservoir would be constructed in Mattingly Heights.

Parliamentary Representative for the area, Honourable Cedric Liburd said that the increase in water supply was necessary bearing in mind the increase in housing taking place in his constituency.

He said that construction started during the first half of 2004 and once complete at the end of February this year, it would improve the water supply to St. Peters in general.  The Minister stressed that this was necessary particularly since appropriate infrastructure had to be put in place to facilitate residents of the CLICO, Komla and National Housing Corporation housing.

The reservoir was visited during a tour of Constituency #8 conducted by Ministers Honourable Cedric Liburd and Honourable Earl Asim Martin.
