BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TODAY, July 4, marks 137 days since Keita Williams and Kasim ‘Dula’ Maynard reportedly went missing after the boat they were in allegedly capsized in the Atlantic Ocean around the Canoe Bay area in the South East Peninsula.

According to Collin ‘Izum’ Matthew, on Tuesday, February 19, he, Williams and Maynard went out in a fishing boat, FV LADY SEA, to clear fish traps they had set around the Canoe Bay area when a high wave suddenly hit the boat causing it to capsize.

Matthew explained that the three of them started swimming towards the shore but he was the only one who had made it to safety. He added that about 7:20 p.m. on the same day he reported the incident to officers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard.

Since the initial report, members of the Coast Guard had combed the area in search of the

missing men and even went as far as Antigua, but their efforts did not yield success.

The Police had however indicated that they wanted Matthew to assist them with their investigations into the matter, and on February 26 he walked into the Basseterre Police Station and was interviewed by members of the Criminal Investigation Department.

To date, the two men are still missing and it is believed that they have perished in the Atlantic Ocean. In an effort to acquire information on the progress made in their investigations, SKNVibes contacted the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry.

Henry said the Police are not actively pursuing investigations into the missing men at the moment, but would do so once reliable information surfaces. He also declared that the file on the two missing men has only been shelved and not closed.

~~Adz:Left~~Asked at what time the missing men would be declared legally dead even if their remains are not found, Henry said, “After seven years”.

Days after the men went missing and feared drowned, it was rumoured that Williams was seen in Cayon. However, according to a senior member of the security forces, “both overt and covert operations were carried out in the Cayon area but Williams was not seen. Therefore, we concluded that the rumours were false”.

Attempts to contact Maynard’s parents were futile, but one relative told SKNVibes that the parents are still grieving over the matter and hope that one day they would see him alive and well walking through the door to their home.

The relative also noted that the parents and other members of Maynard’s immediate family would have felt better if his body was found and buried, rather to be left wondering for the rest of their lives.
