CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – ONCE again, Sherry-Ann Liburd has done herself, family and the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis proud in the field of academics.

Liburd, the daughter of Ridley and Sheryl Liburd, who will officially graduate in September, recently received the Legal Education Certificate and commendation for entry to the Principal’s Role of Honour from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica.

The Legal Education Certificate is Liburd’s first step towards practicing her profession as a lawyer while entry into the Principal’s Role of Honour is only granted to students who would have achieved a minimum of six ‘A’ grades over the two-year programme.

While a total of six persons from a class of 80 students achieved this status, Liburd was the only one from the OECS for 2008 to achieve this distinction.

Prior to matriculation into the Norman Manley Law School, Liburd was the only Nevisian student to be accepted into the University of the West Indies in Barbados’ law programme in 2003. It was there that she achieved first class honours.

In 2007 in Jamaica, she won the Michael March Memorial Prize for the Law of Remedies after attaining best results in the Law of Remedies course. She was also awarded the Keithly Lake and Daniel Brantley and Associates Scholarship this year because of her excellent performance in the previous year. ~~Adz:Right~~

Liburd describes the experience as initially overwhelming because of the high level of competition that surrounded her. She however declared that dedication and perseverance were important contributors to her success.

“If you want to do something you need to go for it, regardless of the criticisms and regardless of the position,” she said.

The overwhelmed Liburd recorded her gratitude to her family and the entire Gingerland community for their support and prayers. She made special mention of her parents.

“I must say thanks to my parents, as they were the financial background behind the whole experience,” she said.

Sherry-Ann Liburd is currently employed with Gonsalves Hamel-Smith Law Firm in St. Kitts
