Cox and Conaree selected in Cable & Wireless beautification project

The entries have been submitted and the names selected of the two communities which would enjoy a makeover compliments Cable & Wireless.

The communities of Conaree on St. Kitts and Cox on Nevis were selected from the entries submitted.  The next step would be a walk through of these communities so that an assessment can be made of the scope of work to be done.  By mid July the company should begin the physical work in preparation of the beautification make over of these two communities.

Cable & Wireless last month announced that as one of its gifts to the people of St. Kitts & Nevis in commemoration of the silver jubilee of independence, it will “make over” two communities – one in St. Kitts and the other in Nevis.  The company also committed its human resources to assist with this exercise, saying that staff of the organisation would play an active role in the physical work required to transform these communities.

“Selecting the winning communities was not an easy task, but we were keen on finding out how this exercise would make a difference to the residents,” said VP Corporate Communications and Marketing, Laverne Caines.  In the case of the submission from Conaree, the community resident wrote, “We are presently a socially depressed community and we believe that such an activity will uplift us.”  The submission received from the Cox Improvement Committee on the other hand outlined all of the successes that the community has enjoyed over the last several years.  It concluded by saying that Cable & Wireless’ assistance will provide a significant impact on the villagers and visitors as the community is home to a number of heritage sites and attractions.

Chief Executive Pat Walters said that she is looking forward to working with these two communities.  “We’ve been involved in several activities of sponsorship over the last several years, but going into a community and doing the physical work will be immensely gratifying for me and my team. We are looking forward to beginning the process and invite other community-minded individuals to join us as we celebrate this significant milestone in nationhood.”
