SCASPA to host best in class high school quiz competition

    BIRD ROCK  St.Kitts, May 2nd, 2012   –  Six schools from across the island will compete for academic supremacy and the title, “SCASPA’s 2012 Best in Class High School Champion”, on Tuesday, May 8, Thursday, May 10, Tuesday, May 15, Thursday, May 17, and the Grand Finals on Monday, May 21, at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

     

    The competition, now its second year, is one of SCASPA’s community projects geared toward raising SCASPA’s profile among students, promoting educational activities especially among the youth, providing healthy competition among students and generating greater understanding of and appreciation for SCASPA’s role in national development.

     

    Participating schools include the Washington Archibald High, Basseterre High, Cayon High, Verchild’s High, Charles E. Mills Secondary, and Saddlers Secondary.  Each school will be represented by two participants, both from third form.

     

    The quiz will consist of the following category rounds: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science Local History and Geography; Current Affairs, SCASPA Affairs, and Wild. The subject area questions will be curriculum based.  All questions have been prepared by a team of educators and PricewaterhouseCoopers will randomly select questions for each night of competition.

     

    The rounds will be conducted differently to add variety and interest to the competition. There will be questions directed at individual members of each team; there will be team questions; there will be speed rounds in which buzzers will be used and there will be a single question in the Wild category.

     

    All competitions will be held in the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.  Elimination rounds will commence at 7:00 p.m., and the Grand Finale will be carried live on ZIZ Television starting at 8:00 p.m.

     

    SCASPA hosted its first Best in Class Competition in 2011 for high schools and primary schools around the island. The Champion for the Best in Class High School Quiz Competition in 2011 was the Charles E. Mills Secondary School. The Champion for the Best in Class Primary School Quiz Competition in 2011 was the St. Kitts-Seventh-day Adventist Primary School.
