Wesley Wharton heads the government's IT Unit.
Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 18, 2005):
Acting Director of the Governments IT Unit Mr. Wesley Wharton has advised computer users to ensure that they keep abreast of the warnings and advisories of software developers.

He explained that in light of recent concerns and announcements by Microsoft that its clients download the latest updates, it is important for consumers to take these seriously to avoid virus and other infections to their systems.

Mr. Wharton explained that because viruses are now common threats to computer systems, it is wise for people to just keep informed and act as soon as possible.

The acting director added that good virus protection makes sense economically as it is much more frugal to pay to update or purchase a good anti-virus programme than to be forced to pay to get rid of a virus or in some cases to have to purchase a completely new system.

Mr. Wharton said that his department is forging ahead with plans to develop a project that will improve the efficiency of Governments computer systems.
