Premier Offers Support to New Grenadian Prime Minister

~~Adz:Left~~TORTOLA, B.V.I- Premier and Minister for Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, has committed his administration’s continued support to Grenada after yesterday’s general elections, which resulted in a new leader being elected in that Caribbean nation.

The Premier’s pledge came via a congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Elect Mr. Tillman Thomas, sent earlier today.

The Premier congratulated the new Grenadian Prime Minister on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands and commended him on his party’s convincing win. Thomas’s National Democratic Congress secured 11 of the 15 parliamentary seats while the outgoing New National Party retained four.

“Your victory is a vote of confidence which the electorate has placed in your leadership. I give you my assurance of my Government’s continued support as you assume your responsibilities as Prime Minister of Grenada,” the Premier said in his letter.

The Premier went on to say that he looks forward to personally meeting and congratulating the new leader of Grenada at the next meeting of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Authority in Montserrat later this year. “I am extending best wishes to you and your team for a successful term in office,” the Premier’s letter concluded.

Over the years the Government’s of the Virgin Islands (British) and Grenada have enjoyed a close working relationship as members of several regional bodies like the OECS, the Caribbean Community, and the Caribbean Tourism Organisation.
