BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT was another four for the Miss Labour Pageant when Kwahne Wharton of Constituency Four captured the title in the wee hours of this morning (May 6).

It was the second consecutive year that that constituency had won the crown.

Wharton accumulated a total of 732 points to win the crown along with the Best Talent and Best Evening Wear segments.

The First Runner-up position went to Constituency Eight’s Caley Greaux who also captured the Best Promotional Speech and Best Creative Wear.

East Basseterre’s Shenequa Powell copped the Second Runner-up position while West Basseterre’s Nichelle Henry was adjudged Third Runner-up.

A fairly large crowd attended the show which got off to a late start due to the inclement weather and a few other delays.

Wharton was consistent throughout her performances, stunning the audience and judges in each of her well-executed appearances.

The pageant was held under the 80th Anniversary theme - ‘The vision of a people, the liberation of a nation-SKNLP 80 years of advancement through empowerment’.

The audience was taken down memory lane during the first judged segment as each contestant had to prepare a speech based on ‘The Life of founding Members of the SKNLP’.

Each contestant gave short accounts while dressed as their portrayer such as Robert L. Bradshaw, C.A. Paul Southwell and Sir John Payne.

Donning an attorney’s garments, Wharton spoke about Sir Lee L. Moore while Greaux (winner of the segment), dressed in a cultural shirt, passionately spoke about Clarence Fitzroy Bryant.

The Creative Wear segment was quite interesting as it truly showed the creativity of the contestants and their chaperones creating outfits out of leaves, plastic bags, egg shells and even sawdust.

Greaux confidently donned an outfit and headpiece made out of paper and pencils which was said to encourage education.

The Talent segment was filled with several songs, dances and dramatic presentations but the most outstanding piece was that of the crowned queen, who showcased her beautiful voice as she sang about the Labour Party being strong.

During this segment the show was delayed for several minutes because the representative of Constituency Five had taken ill.

She was however able to perform her talent after leaving the stage in tears during her first attempt.

The Evening Wear segment was filled with lovely dresses. However, modelling/deportment, impact and personality were also factors in determining the winner of this segment.

Wharton’s red gown neatly hugged her body as she glided across the stage with grace and charm that helped her to capture that segment.

St. Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas had the honour of crowning the queen, while last year’s winner, Zaiesha Joseph, handed over the crown after taking her final walk.

The house band for the night was Grand Masters while side performance included Rock-a-Fella who performed his popular tune, ‘Labour, Labour’.

An appearance was made by Jamaican artiste Aidonia, who teased the audience by singing a line of one of his most popular hits - ‘Ukku Bit’.

The Aidonia Concert takes place this evening (May 6) at Carnival Village.
