SKELEC tree cutting program begins this weekend

Press Release (SKELEC)

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, May 9th, 2012   --  In SKELEC on-going efforts to further improve our services and response time to outages to our consumers we will be undertaking our weekend tree cutting program beginning Saturday May 12, 2012. This is part of our preventive maintenance program.

The purpose of the program is to clear trees from the utility lines so that they do not interrupt service to our consumers and endanger the public.

This venture may involve the company’s employees gaining access to private property for the cutting of trees on said property, and the interrupting of supply for short periods.

The cooperation of the public is therefore needed in order for this exercise to be successful. We will be informing owners of those properties prior to the time of cutting. Notices will be placed in the media and via social media.

With the hurricane season fast approaching it is imperative that we cut as many ‘problem branches’ as possible as these can severely damage the lines in times of storms and can hamper the recovery efforts.

SKELEC is therefore seeking the cooperation of the general public with respect to this exercise.

As we continue to work to improve our services to you our consumers we are asking in return for your assistance with making us aware of areas where you see need cutting. Calling our hotline number 600 or 465-2013 and giving the dispatcher the necessary information would be extremely helpful.

In keeping utility lines clear it not only helps in the transmission of electricity but also help prevent the loss of electricity.
