Twelve new cases for May 2012 Criminal Assizes

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE May 2012 Criminal Assizes opened yesterday (May 8) at the Basseterre High Court where 12 new cases are scheduled to be heard. However, only one matter was heard yesterday and it resulted in a guilty plea.

     

    It was the matter of Dale Hazel, who was originally charged with one count of burglary, one count of larceny and one count of receiving of a black and silver Dell laptop, US$280 and EC$70 on February 10, 2012 .

     

    He pleaded guilty to the receiving charge and is currently remanded to Her Majesty's Prison awaiting sentence pending a Social Inquiry Report.

     

    The 11 other cases are those of Esroy Mills; Kemron Murray; a juvenile; Marlon Kelly; Ishaun Wilkes and Sheldon Isaac; Jahmari Lake and Leon Jederon; Angel Palmer, Arismendi Rivera, Juan Samiento, and Ramon Benitezsaba; and four unnamed men.

     

    Mills is charged with assault with intent to commit a felony on Nicarol Isaac. This incident took place on July 4, 2011 at Cayon. He is also facing a second charge of shooting with intent, where he allegedly shot at Glenroy Stanley on the same date in the same village.

     

    Murray is charged with housebreaking and larceny at the Stonefort Heights home of Mansfield James on April 29, 2011. He is said to have stolen a number of canned foods.

     

    The juvenile is faced with a murder charge for the killing of 14-year-old Bejay Dore on April 3, 2009.

     

    Kelly pleaded not guilty to burglary allegedly committed at Boyds on 12 January, 2010, while Ishaun Wilkes and Sheldon Isaac are jointly charged with assault with intent to commit a felony on May 18, 2011 at Bird Rock.

     

    Lake and Jederon are facing two counts of robbery on 26 April, 2011 at Conaree Village where they are alleged to have stolen a number of jewellery valued at EC$41 063 and EC$ 48 200 two females.

     

    The men are also charged with receiving the items, as well as being jointly charged with indecent assault allegedly committed on 26 April, 2011.

     

    Palmer, Rivera, Samiento, Benitezsaba are jointly charged with attempted larceny at the Conaree Landfill on January 1, 2010 where they are said to have attempted to steal transformers, used batteries and copper, property of Sylvester Tweed.

     

    Two men are facing indecent assault charges that were committed on September 15, 2010 and February 6, 2010 in Basseterre.

     

    Another man is faced with the rape of a certain female on May 17, 2011, while another is charged with one count rape and one count unlawful carnal knowledge on June 27, 2011.

     

    These cases are being presided over by Resident Judge Justice Errol Thomas.
