BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) has launched a campaign to assist local cricketer and sports coach Codville ‘Caddy’ Rogers, who is battling an illness.

Sometime last week, word began circulating that the young man was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphocytes; a type of cell which forms part of the immune system.

On the Codville Rogers Recovery Fund website, http://www.codvillerogersrecoveryfund.com/ Rogers explained that his condition is curable with chemotherapy and that he is in need of five more sessions of treatments over the ensuing four months. These, he indicated, would cost in excess of $32 000 each.

President of the interim SKCA Interim Committee, Auckland Hector, explained to this publication that he had heard of Rogers’ illness and, having spoken to him, he decided to raise the issue at a SKCA management meeting after which it was decided that a campaign would be launched.

“When I spoke with him the last time, he had indicated to me that the insurance which he had, that were made available to him, had been fully utilised and that he was really out of funds. And that is what has driven us forward to move and try and seek ways to raise some funds for him.”

Hector explained that in aid of the ailing cricketer, a Codville Rogers Recovery Fund account was established at the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank – numbered 10253202 - into which persons could deposit monies.

Donations can also be made through the http://www.codvillerogersrecoveryfund.com/ website.

Additionally, the SKCA will be hosting a raffle during the one-day matches between West Indies and New Zealand to be held in St. Kitts on July 11, 14 and 16. The proceeds of this venture will be donated to Rogers.

Hector explained that the Ministry of Sports, for which Rogers works, has also agreed to contribute to the campaign “in several ways”.

Over the next couple of weeks, the SKCA will be visiting a number of media houses through which they would be soliciting the public’s assistance on Rodgers’ behalf.

Hector expressed his hope that the Leeward Islands Cricket Team for which Rogers played over a seven-year period would assist in helping to raise the EC$160 000-plus sum.

He called upon other entities and individuals to see merit in contributing to the Codville Rogers cause.

This publication understands that Rogers is currently in Miami receiving treatment for his illness.
