Brimstone Hill robbery case among 12 traversed from January 2012 Assizes

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE case of the tourists robbery that took place at Brimstone Hill on November 14, 2010 is among the number of cases traversed from the January 2012 Criminal Assizes to the current May Assizes.

     

    Elroy 'Stanny' Williams, Junior ‘Q’ Sobratie, Curtis Long, Delvin 'Stoby' Francis and George 'Naddy' Welsh are jointly facing a number of charges including assault with intent to rob and robbery.

     

    According to reports, 17 passengers, including an infant, were aboard a coaster tour bus when they were robbed of an undisclosed sum of money, jewellery, cellular phones and other personal items while on their way to visit the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park.

     

    The other traversed cases are those of Nelson Challenger, Shenroy Francis, Jami Rawlins, Glenroy Smithen and Moses Gardner; Denver Fyfield; Kelroy ‘C-Face’ Hazel and Jahari ‘Baddie’ Bart; Amal Whyte and Devon Fyfield; Baba Tunde Dami Lola Alonge; David Payne and a juvenile; Kern Cabey; Exavier Phillip and Junior Stevens; Denzil Huggins; and three unnamed men.

     

    Challenger, Francis, Rawlins, Smithen and Gardner are expected to stand trial for the murder/manslaughter of Gregory Zakers on April 10, 2008.

     

    Elliott and Stevens are facing one count of robbery where they were said to have stolen a number of items belonging to Errol Finch, which include a driver’s license, cell phone and pendant all to the value of EC$2,468.20.

     

    They are also facing three counts of assault with intent to rob Neresha Francis, Lorna Wilson and Kieb Armstrong in Basseterre on July 1, 2010.

     

    Denver Fyfield is charged with the murder of Hendricks Roberts who was killed sometime between June 20 and June 21, while Whyte and Devon Fyfield are jointly charged with the June 23, 2005 murder of Hubert Phipps.

     

    Payne and the juvenile are jointly charged with robbing St. Clair Nathaniel Gumbs of EC$647 at New Road on May 20, 2011.

     

    Hazel and Bart are jointly charged with the April 6, 2011 killing of Laustin Jamie Williams, while Huggins have yet to be tried for the detaining of post letters on April 1, 2006.

     

    Alonge is charged with obtaining property by false pretence on April 1, 2008 while Cabey is charged with endangering life to cause serious injury to property, which was committed on January 14, 2010.

     

    Three men are facing sexual charges of rape committed on February 29, 2011, incest committed on August 27, 2010 and unlawful carnal knowledge committed on June 1, 2011.

     

    Of the 24 cases scheduled to be heard at the Basseterre High Court for this Assizes, 12 are new while the others have been traversed.
