Press Release

The Alliance Française of St. Kitts & Nevis will be celebrating Bastille Day (French National Holiday)
    this Sunday 13th July 2008
    From 6.00pm to 8.00pm
     at Alliance Française in Greenlands

This holiday commemorates the storming of the Bastille that took place on 14th July 1789 and marked the beginning of the French Revolution.

The Bastille was a prison and a symbol of the absolute and arbitrary power of the ancient regime of Louis XVI.  By capturing this symbol, the people signaled that the King’s power was no longer absolute: power should be based on the Nation and be limited by a separation of powers.

The celebration in St. Kitts will be held at the Alliance Française in Greenlands and take the form of a cultural and gastronomic event with a French Chef, Jean-Claude Valvason, Barbadian Chef Greg Austin and French Baker Jacques Braghieri.

They will display a French and Creole buffet and a variety of French bread. Featuring also Giuliano Cubano for the decoration
Live music Band with Dina Azzam And Gairy Knight will be part of the celebration.

Tickets for the event may be obtained from the Alliance Française.  For more information please call 465-9415.
