CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – OFFICERS of the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) during this weekend have removed another firearm and a quantity of ammunition off the streets of the Federation.

The pistol, a .45 Taurus Millennium, and 12 matching rounds of ammunition were found on a premises occupied by Taj Wilkin and Phyllis Wilkin at Nisbett Settlement on Nevis.

According to Police Public Information Officer (PIO) Sergeant Stephen Hector, “the Nevis Division, during its Strategic Operations during the weekend of May 12, 2012 achieved success in an ongoing narcotic and firearm investigation”.

Hector said that the police, in collaboration with the Customs and Excise officials, had since laid firearm, ammunition and smuggling charges against Taj and Phyllis Wilkin.

He noted that Assistant Commissioner of Police Robert Liburd of the Nevis Division “is pleased to bring initial closure to these ongoing investigations, but assures the general public that other leads are currently being followed up with a view to ensure that future strategic operations are successfully mounted”.

The PIO also noted that the Commissioner of Police, Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn, is aware of the geographical challenges that St. Kitts and Nevis poses to successful law enforcement initiatives.

“The Commissioner of Police is cognisant of the geographical challenges that this twin-island Federation poses in achieving effective law enforcement initiatives whilst taking back our streets, and therefore craves the continued support of the general public as the DELTA Squad's ambit continues to be enhanced as the RSCNPF continues to take measures to improve the safety and security conditions thus contributing to a stable environment for sustainable growth and investment within the Federation.”

Members of the Delta Squad and the Special Services Unit are currently conducting a series of specialised operations on both islands and had requested the public’s cooperation throughout this weekend.

In an earlier release, the PIO said, “We therefore ask for the cooperation and support of you the general public as we take strategic steps to maintain the safety and security of the Federation”.

He indicated that the strategic measures which would be employed might interrupt the normal course of residents’ activities in public life and, as such, “your usual cooperation would be greatly appreciated”.
