BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MOTHER of two, 18-year-old Allison Budgeon of Phillips Village was adjudged winner of the 2012 Mother’s Day Beauty Queen Pageant and Talent Expo last evening (May 12) at Carnival Village.

Along with winning the crown, Budgeon also won the Business Wear and Best Talent segments.
The First Runner-up was 23-year-old mother of three Shanika Percival of Boyds who also won Best Beachwear and Best Evening Wear.

The other contestants were Shanda Browne (26) of Lime Kiln who is a mother of one and 24-year-old Akesha Lynch, a mother of one who resides at Sandy Point.

SKNVibes learnt that Lula Simon, for some unknown reason, did not participate in the show.
Speaking with this publication, Budgeon said she was exhausted as preparation for the event was very time consuming.

She said that for the Business Wear she was dressed as a Lawyer while for her talent she chose to send a strong message that seems to be affecting many in the community.

“I did a performance where I was a mother who knew of her son being a thief but did not try to stop him. Instead, I encouraged him and accepted the stuff.

“So I want to say to mothers, ‘If you know you didn’t give your son money and he bring stuff to you, you should send him back with them,’” she said.

In a previous interview, Kirk Williams, PRO of the Organising Committee, said that one of the main reasons for the show is to help boost the young mothers’ self-confident and self esteem.

“The show is to have them be a part of something positive and show the general public what they have to offer. Often, young mothers are at times looked at negatively because of mistakes they have made. So we’re hoping the show will be a boost for them and to motivate them, because they can accomplish anything once they put their mind to it,” he said.

Last year’s winner, Orelma Prentice, took her final walk as queen last night.
