First week of SCASPA Best in Class Quiz Competition 2012: A success!

    Bird Rock, St. Kitts, May 14th, 2012 - The first and second elimination rounds of SCASPA’s Best in Class High School Quiz Competition, held on Tuesday, May 8, and Thursday, May 10, have been hailed a success by the Competition’s organizers.

     

    With an average attendance by supporters, students and staff members of the Washington Archibald High, Basseterre High, Cayon High, Charles E. Mills Secondary, Verchild’s High, and Saddlers Secondary schools, the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank was brought to life with excitement as the best third formers on the island battled for academic supremacy and an opportunity to move one step closer to  the Grand Finale.

     

    On the first night of elimination, through a series of individual and team rounds, the quiz ended with the Basseterre High, Saddlers Secondary, Verchild’s High and Washington Archibald High School scoring a total of thirty five points placing them all in first position. The Cayon High School scored thirty points in second place position and the Charles E. Mills Secondary School scored twenty-five points, eliminating them from SCASPA’s Best in Class High School Quiz Competition 2012.

     

    The evening’s competition was moderated by Senior Journalist of WINNFm, Ms. Toni Fredrick and judged by Caribbean Studies Lecturer of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), Ms. Lavern Brookes, Conservation Officer in the Department of Physical Planning and Environment, Mr. Andy Blanchette and Communication Studies and Literature Lecturer of the CFBC, Ms. Kristen Gumbs.

     

    The competition continued on Thursday, May 10, as five schools battled for the title, ‘Best in Class High School Quiz Competition Champions’. During the second night of competition, the Washington Archibald High School won the competition with a total score of sixty five points, followed by the Basseterre High School with fifty five points and the Cayon High and Saddlers Secondary schools scored forty points in third place.

     

    The Verchild’s High school was eliminated from the second night of competition. The competition was moderated by Senior Youth Officer in the Department of Youth, Mr. Kennedy Pemberton. Director of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Mr. Geoffrey Hanley, Legal Counsel, St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, Mrs. Ermelin Sebastian-Bob and Lecturer and the CFBC, Mr. Steven Edinborough, comprised the team of qualified judges for the evening.

     

    During each night of competition, the students were quizzed on English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Local History, Geography, Current Affairs, SCASPA Affairs, a Wild round.

     

    The next competition will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank at 7: 00 p.m. The Basseterre High, Cayon High, Saddlers Secondary, and Washington Archibald High schools will compete in the third round of elimination.
