BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FEDERATION’S sprinter Antoine Adams has now joined elite athletes around the world as he recently qualified to represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the 200 metres event.

Information reaching SKNVibes states that Adams, on Sunday (May 13), competed in the 200m event at “The Last Stand’ meet at the University of the Incamate Word in San Antonio, Texas, where he finished first in a time of 20.65 seconds.

This feat has earned the national athlete an Olympic ‘B’ qualifying standard.

A release from the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) stated that “with a wind factor of -3.4 metres per second, many argue that better conditions would have not only earned him (Adams) an ‘A’ qualifying standard, but potentially eclipsing the National record of 20.20 seconds currently held by sprint icon Kim Collins”.

In addition to victory in the 200m, Adams also won the 100m in 10.42 seconds at Sunday’s meet.

He now joins Collins, Brijesh Lawrence and Tameka Williams as the fourth athlete from the twin-island Federation to qualify for the London Olympic Games in an individual event.

Meanwhile, Williams, who also participated in The Last Stand meet, was victorious in a sprint double.

She clocked 11.43 seconds in the 100m and 23.27 seconds in the 200m.

According to Evris Huggins, PRO of the SKNAAA, the executive body of the Association extends congratulations to Antoine Adams for attaining the qualifying standard for the XXX Edition of the Olympic Games.
