Public invited to Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and B’DAY Celebration

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, May 14th, 2012   – The Deputy Governor’s Office is inviting the public to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration in observance of 60 years of Her Majesty’s reign and the official ceremony to commemorate the Queen’s birthday on Monday, June 4.

    The celebration begins at 2:00 p.m. with a march from the Sir Olva George’s Plaza to the Queen Elizabeth II Park for the annual parade, which will also include the presentation of the diamond jubilee medals and the long service awards. His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Boyd McCleary, CMG, CVO will inspect all units of the parade, following which there will be the march past, the hoisting of the Governor’s Standard and the Royal Salute given in honour of Her Majesty.

     

    Governor McCleary will present the diamond jubilee medals and the long service awards. Several officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Her Majesty’s Prison, the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services Department, the Virgin Islands Search and Rescue and the BVI Health Services Authority will receive the Diamond Jubilee Medals. Eighteen officers will receive years of service awards.

     

    Four members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force will receive the Colonial Police Long Service Medal for 18 years of service, two officers will receive the First Clasp to the Police Long Service Medal for 25 years of service, and three will receive the Second Clasp to Police Long Service Medal for 30 years of service. One officer from Her Majesty’s Prison will receive the Colonial Long Service Medal for 18 years of service and eight officers from the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services Department will receive the Colonial Fire and Rescue Long Service Medal for 25 years of service.

     

    Participants in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Birthday celebration will include several uniform bodies, youth organisations, schools and service clubs. Music will be provided by the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Jazz Band, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Band and the Pathfinders of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

     

    The climax of the celebration will be the beacon lighting ceremony that will take place simultaneously on Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada at 9:00 p.m. The public is invited to witness the lighting of the Beacons on Tortola at the Queen Elizabeth II Park, Virgin Gorda at the Fire Grounds, Anegada at the Government’s Compound and on Jost Van Dyke on the school grounds.

     

    The Government of the Virgin Islands is also inviting all those who have been honoured with medals in previous years to attend the Diamond Jubilee and Birthday Celebration and wear their decorations.
