    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, May 14th, 2012    –  To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, sixty years of Her Majesty the Queen’s reign and in observance of the 86th anniversary of the Queen’s birth, Monday, June 4, 2012 has been proclaimed as a public holiday throughout the Territory.

    Acting in accordance with Section 5(a) of the Public Holidays Act, the Governor, after consultation with the Cabinet, has proclaimed June 4 as a public holiday throughout the Territory in an effort to mark the 60th year reign of Her Majesty the Queen. Additionally, June 4 has also been appointed as the day to observe the 86th anniversary of the birth of Her Majesty the Queen pursuant to Section 2 of the Public Holidays Act, Cap 199 of the Laws of the Virgin Islands, Revised Edition, 1991. Pursuant to Section 5(b) of the Public Holidays Act, June 9, 2012 which is the day appointed as a public holiday in observance of the Sovereign’s birthday shall not be observed as a public holiday.

     

    The Deputy Governor’s Office is hereby advising the public that Monday, June 4 will be observed as a public holiday in the Territory to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and to celebrate the 86th anniversary of the birth of Her Majesty the Queen.

     

    The public is invited to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration in observance of 60 years of Her Majesty’s reign and the official ceremony to commemorate the Queen’s birthday on Monday, June 4 at the Queen Elizabeth II Park.
