Newtown trounce St. Paul’s 18-1 in Star Browne Female Football League

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE LIME-sponsored St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association’s Elvis ‘Star’ Browne Female League got off the ground on Sunday (May 13) with three matches, which saw Delphic Newtown delivering a sound thrashing on S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s Football Club.

The matches were played on the LIME Grounds at Needsmust, where Delphic Newtown netted 18 goals to S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s lone goal, while St. Peter’s Blue Angels defeated C.C.C. Bath United 3-1 and St. Thomas/Trinity Strikers outplayed Cayon in 2-nil encounter.

At the launch of the Elvis ‘Star’ Browne Female League held on the previous Sunday (May 6) at the LIME Grounds, Delphic Newtown emerged winners of the Soccerama in which the six clubs participated and also the girls from Village Superstars.

At the opening ceremony of the league, LIME Country Manager David Lake declared that the telecommunications giant jumped at the opportunity and opened its doors as sponsors of the Female Football League.

“LIME is delighted to be a sponsor in the first-ever women’s football league. And when asked to facilitate this league by providing our grounds for most of these matches, we jumped at the opportunity and opened our doors to the league. It was indeed a pleasure to be the host.”

LIME mobile has invested in the development of women’s football in the Federation and over the years the launch of a female football league has always been a dream.

Thanks to the late Elvis ‘Star’ Browne and others, along with LIME being the major sponsor, this dream was finally made a reality.

Lake noted that LIME is extremely ecstatic to be a part of something as momentous as this event and it would continue to be supportive.

The battle among the females will continue this Sunday May 20 at  Warner Park.
