Codville Rogers recovery events get underway this weekend

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Codville Rogers recovery effort is gaining momentum with the first of a series of fundraising events scheduled to take place this weekend.

The fundraising events take the form of cricket matches which are being organised collaboratively by the St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) and the Sports Department.

As explained in a release issued to the media yesterday (May 15), a Double Wicket event would be held on Saturday and two St. Kitts vs. Nevis matches are scheduled for Sunday (May 20).

Saturday’s event commences at 12 noon and teams are invited to register at a cost of $50 per team at the office of the St. Kitts Cricket Association located at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

Alternatively, the following members of the Organising Committee can be contacted for more information: Don Dango Farrell at 662-9366, Hester Rawlins 660-0901, Ganesh Algu 664-4130, Noel Guishard 763-0899 or Elrica Francis 467-1293.

One of Sunday’s matches will be held between the St. Kitts Masters and the Nevis Masters in a T/20 match and the other will be held between the two national teams in a 25-overs game.

The organisers have indicated that in addition to exciting cricket matches, musical entertainment and a well-stocked bar would be featured at the events. The events would be held at Warner Park.

The Codville Rogers Recovery Drive was launched approximately two weeks ago to provide monetary assistance for the ailing cricketer.

Rogers, a former member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Team, was diagnosed with lymphoma; a cancer which affects one of the types of blood cells of the immune system.

This publication was informed that Rogers – a sports coach attached to the Sports Department – is currently in Miami receiving treatment which he estimates to cost in the region of EC$160 000.

To this end, a website was created http://www.codvillerogersrecoveryfund.com/ through which persons can make donations and a Codville Rogers Recovery Fund was created through the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank which persons can access to make donations. That account is numbered 10253202.

Regarding this weekend’s events, Farrell of the Organising Committee told this publication that the response has been encouraging and persons have indicated that they are looking forward to participating in and supporting the event.

The public is encouraged to lend its support to the events as all proceeds will be donated to Rogers.
