ROADTOWN Tortola BVI,  May 16th, 2012  - Commercial and residential consumers of electricity are encouraged to participate in BVI Electricity Corporation’s energy conservation challenge.

Deputy General Manager of the BVI Electricity Corporation, Mr. Henry Creque told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the purpose of the initiative is to promote to their customers methods that can be used to reduce the consumption of energy. “We are issuing a challenge to residential and commercial consumers, which will begin on June 1,” Mr. Creque announced.

Commercial consumers will be given one week, from June 1 to 8, to conserve as much energy as possible and the establishment with the most power conserved will be crowned the winner. Similarly, the residential competition will run from June 1 to 29 and consumers will be given a month to implement as many energy conserving practices as they can.

Mr. Creque explained, “At the end of the competition period, we are going to compare what persons conserved during this period to what they typically would have used for that month.” The commercial and residential consumer with the most savings will each win a new IPAD. The winning business will also receive a certificate which they will be able to display in their organisation.

The quickest, easiest and most effective way to save money on your electricity bills according to the Deputy General Manager is to conserve energy. Therefore, he is encouraging persons to participate in this challenge to win energy efficiency bragging rights.

Interested persons are encouraged to visit BVIEC’s website at www.bvielectricity.com, or contact their offices at 494-3911 or 541-4114 to register. Registration ends on Tuesday, May 29.

The BVI Electricity Corporation is committed to providing the best possible service to their customers, and to aid in the development of the Territory's electrical infrastructure by adequately supplying a reliable and continuous electrical supply to the entire British Virgin Islands population at an affordable cost.
