LIME Community Renewal Project off to a good start

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LIME is once again showing its commitment to improve the communities around the island with a recently launched programme entitled ‘The LIME Community Renewal Project’.

This initiative would consist of a series of projects designed to support local communities in environmental and other developmental activities. The first of these projects was done on International Earth Day, in the form of a community beach cleanup in Parson’s Village.

The cleanup included LIME’s General Manager David Lake, some of the communications giant’s members of staff and residents of Parson’s Village including National Carnival Queen Kalia Huggins.

According to Mr. Lake, the renewal project would cover various aspects of community restoration and would not only consist of beach cleanups but also play ground refurbishment and community beautification as well.

“Whatever is required to renew and rejuvenate the community…in a way it is getting community members out and involved in projects that would enhance the villages and towns where the live. We would be delighted to support any community in our Federation in an effort like this” he said.

Lake indicated that following the completion of this project, many others would be done within the communities of St. Kitts and Nevis, aimed at reigniting the spark within the communities while simultaneously staying true to LIME’s promise of “Building and Connecting the Communities we Serve”.

He also mentioned that Miss Huggins was instrumental in the first project.  The National Carnival Queen said that being a part of the project was a way to bring the community together.

“Looking around and realising how far we have let ourselves be divided is disturbing. I remember growing up in a community where I felt everyone was related to me and where I felt safe. I think we have to start somewhere to bring that back, and with LIME we will be able to do so.

“I am indeed happy to be involved in this initiative. This is another positive step for me, of which I am very proud,” she said.

The telecommunications company has always been a part of projects where it is afforded the opportunity to give back to communities in the most meaningful way.

LIME has contributed towards community development in the Federation in numerous ways, including making contributions to community festivals and education.

The company’s Adopt-A-School programme, sponsorship of the Academic Excellence Awards, and the High School Scholarship Programme where six new students are welcomed to their scholarship ranks every year, are just some of its many social initiatives.
