BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE  St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party today (May 20) held its 80th Anniversary Commemorative Conference at the Royal St. Kitts Marriott Hotel, where delegates would be deciding upon the composition of its National Executive which will serve for the ensuing year.

According to the conference booklet distributed to attendees of the well-attended Public Session of the event, one individual, Prime Minister the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, was nominated to hold the position of National Leader.

Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy National Leader of the SKNLP Sam Condor was nominated for election to the position of Deputy National Leader; a position he has held for years. However, another hat was been thrown into the ring and delegates of the SKNLP will choose between him and Dr. Earl Asim Martin who was also nominated for that position.

His first time receiving such a nomination, Martin – who spoke exclusively with SKNVibes - explained that should he be elected to that position, his scope of interaction within the party would be widened.

“As you would appreciate, I am already a leader within the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party as the elected representative for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party. It (would give) me the opportunity to interact with the part at a higher level and to ensure again that the fundamental principles, the fundamental philosophies of the party continue to operate and the rewards that we would have fought for over the years, that we continue to ensure that those rewards continue to improve the quality of life of the citizens of the Federation”

Similarly, two individuals were listed as nominees for the position of National Chairman of the SKNLP.

Held by Dr. Timothy Harris for several years, he has – yet again – been nominated for election to that position. Cedric Roy Liburd, former Minister of Agriculture and current Advisor in the Ministry of Transport, has was also nominated for the position of National Chairman.

This publication made attempts to question Liburd on his nomination but he was otherwise engaged.

Nigel Carty was nominated for the position of National Vice Chairman, Diana Williams-Humphrey for National Secretary, Karen Crossman for National Assistant Secretary and Norgen Wilson was nominated for the office of National Treasurer.

Crossman was also nominated to hold one of the positions of the three elected members of the Executive along with Thamesha Fyfield, Joan Phillip, Hazel Ross-Robinson, Terry Williams, Omeley Floyd, Meshack Alford and Vance Gilbert.

The designated members for the National Committee – as named in the booklet – are Sharylle Richardson for Constituency Number One, Rudolph Morton for Constituency Number Two, George Dixon for Constituency Number Five, Rubie Taylor for Constituency Number Six and Vincia Herbert for Young Labour.

The election of the National Executive for the SKNLP would take place during the Business Session of the Conference which was scheduled to take place at 4:00 this afternoon.

It follows the Public Session which featured a number of stirring speeches including those of guest speaker Prime Minister of St. Lucia and Political Leader of the St. Lucia Labour Party the Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony, and the Right Honourable Dr. Douglas.
