BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE body of popular local reggae artiste and songwriter Masud Sadiki was this afternoon (May 21) found hanging by the neck from a tree along a track upon which tourists are taken on conducted tours by Spectrum Tours aback Old Road.
On arrival in Parkway Drive, Old Road in the vicinity where Sadiki lived, this media house observed the body being taken away by employees of Jenkins Funeral Home under police escort.
Residents of the area said that the body was discovered sometime after 4:00 p.m. by a couple of females from within the community, who were engaged in their routine keep fit exercises.
One resident claimed that she saw when he arrived home earlier this afternoon, parked his vehicle in his yard and proceeded on foot towards the track.
“I saw when he was going towards the dirt track and I was a bit surprised, because that was something he would not normally do…but I did not question his motive. However, after four o’clock, I heard people saying that two women who were taking their afternoon walk along the track found him hanging from a tree,” the resident said.
A number of others declared that Sadiki had generously contributed towards the development of the community and that he would be “greatly and sadly missed”.
When contacted, Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Stephen Hector told this media house that officers at the Old Road Police Station had received a report of the incident at approximately 5:25 p.m.
Hector confirmed the body was indeed that of Masud Sadiki and declared that police are investigating but he could not provide any other information at the time.
Masud Sadiki, christened Kevin Donovan in 1974, is also known as ‘Stitch In Time’ in the calypso arena.
He was named in the 2012 Music Festival Lineup to perform on the Thursday night, traditionally known as Jump Up Night, along with Krosfyah, Ali Dee, Nicha B and Machel Montano among others.
