Basseterre High School wins best in class competition

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 23rd, 2012 (SCASPA)  --  On May 21, 2012, teachers, students, parents, and supporters of the Basseterre High and Washington Archibald High schools littered the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank at the Grand Finale of SCASPA’s Best in Class High School Quiz Competition. 
     
    The teams were quizzed individually, as a team and in speed rounds on the areas of English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Local History and Geography, Current Affairs, SCASPA Affairs, and on Wild category.

     

    The evening with its pomp and circumstance was filled with excitement and intense competition. At the end, the Basseterre High School took first place in the Quiz competition, and was dubbed as SCASPA’s Best In Class Quiz Competition Champion! The winning team, which consisted of Kimi-Lee Knight and Philmon Roberts, won with a total score of two hundred and seventy points (270). The Washington Archibald High School, Theryce Charles and Renell Agard, finished in second place with a total score of one hundred and five points (105).

     

    An Awards Ceremony was held immediately after the competition. Students from all the participating local high schools received numerous awards; the participating students of the final teams also received monetary prizes and awards which were distributed by the Chief Executive Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Jonathan Bass.  Additionally, Kimi-Lee Knight, team leader of the winning school, was named, Most Outstanding Student throughout the Quiz competition.

     

    Leader of the winning team, Kimi-Lee Knight stated, “I am pleased with my school’s performance. We’ve been through a lot of struggles but it has been a great learning experience. Entering the competition was worth it. To other students who are hesitant to enter competitions of this kind, I encourage you to have faith in yourself; with faith in yourself, you will be able to succeed. Competitions like ‘Best in Class’ help your self esteem and bring out the best in you.”

     

    The Best in Class High School Quiz Competition was held on May, 8, 10, 15, 17 and 21 at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. Six schools, Basseterre High, Cayon High, Charles E. Mills Secondary, Verchilds High, Saddlers Secondary, Washington Archibald High, entered this year’s competition. One school was eliminated on each night of competition. This year’s quiz was the second High school competition organized and sponsored by SCASPA.
