BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DIGICEL, for the second consecutive year, has thrown its support in the direction of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) by providing monetary and other sponsorship for its 2012 National Invitational and Club Championship.
An intimate handing over ceremony, attended by representatives of Digicel, the SKNAAA and the media, was held at the corporate entity’s flag strip store on Fort Street, where a cheque for EC$5 000 was presented.
Digicel’s Marketing Manager Marsha Chatterjee was on hand to present the cheque to SKNAAA’s Public Relations Officer Evris Huggins.
Chatterjee said her company is pleased to once again sponsor the event.
She explained that Digicel not only contributed to the event monetarily, but spoke of a perk which Digicel customers who are in attendance of the event would receive.
“We are coming onboard not only to give $5 000 cash but customers but…spectators who come in to that event would also be receiving complementary top up credit, courtesy of Digicel. Once you have a Digicel phone number you may deposit it at the gate and you are in for a treat.”
Huggins thanked Digicel for its sponsorship, both monetary and other. He said Digicel’s “in-kind” sponsorship also extends to the OECS Invitational which would be held on the following week.
“Digicel came onboard last year by contributing some $5 000 which met the sponsorship tier for the Bronze category and they are onboard with us again this year. And they are not only offering us cash, but they are offering other ‘in kind’ sponsorship including the placement of tents conspicuously on the grounds for the use of the call room and other miscellaneous uses…
“So, we would like to thank Digicel. We also have the following week the OECS Invitational and they are also going to be donating the tents to the SKNAAA for the success of the meet.”
Chatterjee said sports is an integral part of people’s day to day lives and encouraged persons to attend both the National and OECS Invitationals to see athletes in action and to take advantage of Digicel’s promotion.
