Cable & Wireless celebrates staff; presents awards for
long service and outstanding performance

The second annual Cable & Wireless Staff Awards and Recognition Dinner were of no less pomp and ceremony than the first. The setting was the Grand Ballroom at the Marriott hotel where directors, staff and invited guests were treated in regal fashion.
Included in this year’s recognition, was the Long Service Awards, when several staff were acknowledged for their service to the company spanning from 10 to 35 years. Twenty three persons were listed under this category and as they paraded to the podium for their awards received thunderous applause from colleagues, friends and family.
The Long Service Awards out of the way, twelve Departmental awards were distributed to the respective winners. A preamble of the nominees was read by staff presenters, before the name of the eventual winner was announced against the background music “You’re simply the best.”
The highly-anticipated Manager of the Year Award was conferred on Lionel Evans of the Networks Department. Described as a leader and integral member of his section, Lionel was highly recommended based on his active involvement in the deployment of the company’s DSL network in support of the 2Megs service offering among other achievements.

short list of candidates nominated for Employee of the year, taking home the cash prize for this award.
The Mobile Department still remaining in the spotlight, its Vice President, Mr. David Lake received the nod for Executive of the Year. Selection for this award is made by the Chief Executive, who also handed over a sparkling crystal trophy and the cash award to Mr. Lake.
Crowning the list of awards for the evening was the Chairman and Board of Directors’ Award. This honour was popularly accorded to Mrs Sheila DeSilva, VP Regulatory, for the critical role she played in the company’s listing on the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange.
Mr. Lawrence McNaughton, Chairman of Cable & Wireless St. Kitts & Nevis Ltd, handed over the trophy and cash award to Mrs. DeSilva.
Wrapping up the Awards Ceremony, Chief Executive Patricia Walters, in a vote of thanks underscored the significance of staff recognition. “The success of the company is attributable to the hard work of all of our colleagues who have come out tonight to celebrate and even those who are not present. While we pay tribute to the winners tonight, let us be motivated to aspire to their accomplishments for the ultimate benefit of our customers,” she concluded.
The formal ceremony gave way to dancing and celebrating as award winners and well wishers kicked back to the musical renditions of the Modern Image Band.
