BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LOCAL reggae singer, calypsonian, composer and musician Massud Sadiki reportedly died of asphyxia.

According to Police Press and Public Information Officer Sergeant Stephen Hector, this morning (May 25) Dr. Dora Lesbia Marina Magdariaga conducted an autopsy on his body and found that death was caused by asphyxia; a condition in which the body and, most importantly, the brain, receives inadequate or no oxygen supply.

On the afternoon of Monday (May 21) the lifeless body of 37-year-old Kevin ‘Masud Sadiki’ Donovan was discovered by two women and a man hanging by the neck from a tree along a track upon which tourists are taken on conducted tours by Spectrum Tours aback Old Road.

One resident claimed that the young man had arrived at his Parkway Drive, Old Road home sometime after 2:00 p.m. on the day in question, parked his vehicle in his yard and proceeded on foot towards the track.

“I saw when he was going towards the dirt track and I was a bit surprised, because that was something he would not normally do…but I did not question his motive. However, after four o’clock, I heard people saying that two women who were taking their afternoon walk along the track found him hanging from a tree.”

This media house also learnt that he was seen carrying a bed sheet while on his way to the track, which he reportedly used to hang himself.

News of his tragic death sent shockwaves throughout the twin-island Federation, the Caribbean and even further afield.

Kevin ‘Masud Sadiki’ Donovan, also known as ‘Stitch In Time’ in the calypso arena, was described by many as a conscious singer who produced only positive lyrics and was an advocate against violence towards women.

He was also a co-host of the St. Kitts Visitor Channel and was named in the 2012 Music Festival Lineup to perform on the Thursday night, traditionally known as Jump Up Night, along with Krosfyah, Ali Dee, Nicha B and Machel Montano, among others.

Condolences and tributes flooded the local airwaves on the evening of his passing into the following day. And most, if not all, of his very uplifting compositions were aired on radio stations in the Federation, which included ‘Count Your Blessings’, ‘I’m Still in Love’, ‘Love For Me Mama’ and ‘Log Out’.

Management and staff of SKNVibes join with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Leader of the People’s Action Movement and all other sympathisers in conveying heartfelt condolences to the wife, children, mother, brother and sister as well as other close relatives of the late Kevin ‘Masud Sadiki’ Donovan.
