“I am in good spirit” says Codville Rogers

    Thanked supporters for their contributions

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DESPITE the fact that former Leeward Islands Cricketer Codville Rogers is ailing and has to undergo medical treatment that will cost some EC$160 000, he is still physically active and wants the generous public to know that their contributions would greatly enhance his success of returning to coach young cricketers.

Speaking exclusively with SKNVibes, Rogers recounted the experiences he had in learning that he has a type of cancer known as lymphoma.

He recalled being admitted to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for a couple of weeks and leaving there still having no clue as to what was wrong with him.

“I was home (St. Kitts), hospitalised for a few weeks at the Joseph N. France General Hospital but the doctor there, it is like he did not know what happened to me. So, it was decided that I should seek a second opinion in the US.”

Upon arrival to the United States of America, Miami to be exact, Rogers said he underwent several tests and the doctors concluded that he has lymphoma.

Rogers explained that he commenced treatment, receiving three sessions and when he was scheduled to have his fourth he learnt that monies provided by his insurance policy were exhausted.

“In April I was supposed to go to the hospital to get treatment, and when I got to the hospital they asked me to go to the international office. And when we got there the lady told us that the insurance had expired and that I had exhausted all of my funds from the insurance company back home. So, they said they couldn’t treat me anymore.”

He said it was then that a decision made by the St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) to raise funds for him, gained some momentum.

An account was established at the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank and a website was also constructed via which persons could donate to the cause. Additionally, a number of events have been organised with the aim of generating funds on Rogers’ behalf.

In explaining how the idea for the construction of the website http://www.codvillerogersrecoveryfund.com/ came about, Rogers told SKNVibes that “a brother of mine came up with the idea that we should build a website and the people who I am staying with in Miami, the man’s son builds websites and he quickly went onboard and started doing it. And he did a great job”.

Rogers is in good spirit and at the time of his interview with this publication, he indicated that he is “in good health. I got three treatments already. I am not home bedridden. A lot of people feel like I am bedridden but I am not. I am moving around…I am doing little things for myself, so I am in good health”.

Being a Christian, Rogers expressed to this publication that he is not holding on to lymphoma but rather has claimed his healing in the name of Jesus Christ.

Notwithstanding however, Rogers is still in need of further treatment and financial assistance.

    Response to the fundraising effort

Rogers told this publication that response to his leg of the fund-raising effort is “slow but coming along fairly alright”. He said approximately US$1 300 has been donated through the website and, according to President of the SKCA Auckland Hector, approximately EC$11 000 was deposited into the Codville Rogers Recovery Fund account at National Bank.

He said he is grateful for the contributions which have thus far been contributed and encouraged others to donate to his cause.
