BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 29th, 2012 (CUOPM) – The 100 LED street lights for the Kim Collins Highway and the Frigate Bay Road are on their way to St. Kitts.
Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) His Excellency Miguel Li-Jey Tsao informed Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Minister of Public Utilities and Energy, the Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin that the lights were shipped from Taiwan on Tuesday.
“I wish therefore to underscore and also to express my deepest appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Electricity Department, under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Asim Martin for their commitment in sharing the labour work in order to push forward with this initiative,” said Ambassador Tsao during the presentation of a cheque for the groundworks where the lights will be mounted on the Kim Collins Highway and the Frigate Bay Road. .
“Many good things in life begin with good ideas. I shall want to point out that without the guidance and far-sighted vision of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister, the project would not have been given the level of attention and priority in the first place. Thank you, Your Right Honourable, for your guideline and support,” the Taiwan diplomat said.
Ambassador Tsao pointed out that as a close ally of St. Kitts and Nevis, it is a pleasure for the people and Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), to share their experience in the development of renewable energy.
“As citizens of the global village, we can work together to reduce our carbon footprint and leave a better world to the future generation. Let’s do all in our utmost effort to gradually turn Taiwan and St.Kitts and Nevis into green-energy islands,” he said in presenting the cheque to Prime Minister Douglas in the presence of Minister of Public Utilities and Energy, the Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin; Chief Secretary Mr. Joseph Edmeade; Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Utilities and Energy, Mr. Lenrick Lake and Chairman of the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC), Mr. Arthurlyn Belle.
