    KINGSTOWN St.Vincent, May 24th,  2012   --  Junior Minister of Culture Senator Elvis Charles has pointed to importance of having effective functioning grassroots cultural organizations here.

     

    This he said could bring economic benefits to St Vincent and the Grenadines. Senator Charles was speaking at a ceremony held to launch a national project which is being funded by UNESCO to the tune of 43 thousand dollars.

     


    He said there is need for the strengthening of institutions that provide a collective voice and focus for actions by and for the individuals and groups operating in the cultural sector.

    Meanwhile, General Secretary of the local commission for UNESCO Janeil Henry said issues affecting cultural stakeholders would be addressed as part of the UNESCO project.
