ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, May 31st, 2012 -- Persons are encouraged to visit – The public has until Monday, June 4 to vote online for their favourite Territorial Song.
www.virginislandsnewsonline.com, www.bvinews.com or www.bviplatinum.com and look for the flashing “Vote Now” black and white banner which directs them to the three finalists’ audio clips and lyrics. Voters may choose one of the three songs.
Option one is entitled, “Virgin Islands: Land I Love,” option two is entitled, “Wonder of Creation: The Beautiful Virgin Islands” and option three is entitled “Oh British Virgin Islands”
Acting Director of Culture Mrs. Brenda Lettsome-Tye said “It is important for members of the public to cast their vote in the online poll and select their choice. This will be crucial in presenting the public’s decision to Cabinet who will make the final decision on the matter.”
Twenty-four submissions were received for the Territorial Song Competition of which the selected three were chosen by a panel of judges comprised of persons versed in music.
The Territorial Dress and Song competition was announced by Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn last December following Culture Week 2011 activities.
The development of a Territorial Dress and Song is in keeping with Government’s commitment to preserve, enhance and promote the Virgin Islands cultural identity.
