Inland Revenue Department conducts Tax Collection and Supervisory Management Training Course

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 31st 2012 (Inland Revenue Department) – In an effort to further expand and develop the human resource capabilities of staff, the Inland Revenue Department recently conducted a 5 day training course in St. Kitts. The workshop which begun on Monday 21st May at its Conference Room located at the Tax Reform Unit in the E.C Daniel Building on Cayon Street, Basseterre were held from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.

     


    The training course which concluded on Friday May 25th involved junior officers and supervisors from the Inland Revenue Departments on St. Kitts and on Nevis. Approximately twenty seven (27) participants benefited from the highly interactive and intensive training in a number of areas including modern debt collection procedures, revenue management methodologies, new approaches and strategies to debt collection and managing the resources of the collection environment. 

    The first part of the course curriculum focused on a wide range of subjects, such as Performance Management, Establishing an Effective Collection Department, Reducing Delinquent Accounts, Resolving Disputed Accounts, Productive Requirements of the Collection Industry, and Modern Collection Policies and Procedures.
     
    The second portion of the training dealt with such topics as Negotiation Skills for Debt Collectors, Steps of a Collection Call, Closing a Collection Call and Understanding Delinquencies. Following the conclusion of this course, participants are expected to perform their respective duties more efficiently while delivering added value to all stakeholders.

    The course was conducted by Mr. Keith Nethersole from the consulting firm of Cohen and Klein, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mr. Nethersole is an expert consultant with over 25 years of experience in teaching developmental leadership, management strategies as well as tax and debt collection techniques. He has conducted similar training exercises throughout the United States, Central and South America, and across the Caribbean region. 

    The Inland Revenue Department is charged with administering the tax laws of the Federation in an efficient and equitable manner, to promote voluntary compliance to maximize Revenue for the development of the Federation at the least cost to the public and in a manner that warrants the highest degree of Public confidence in our integrity, efficiency and fairness.
     
    The Inland Revenue Department is the prime revenue collections agency for the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis within the Ministry of Finance, located at Bay Road, Basseterre, and Charlestown, St. Kitts and Nevis, West Indies.
