According to Minister Baptiste, a committee has been assembled to review the draft document and address the concerns that have been voiced by various stakeholders within the Fisheries sector. The Fisheries Minister insists that persons who are affected by the sector should be a part of the debate on the draft document.

Chief Fisheries Officer Cheryl Appleton, will head the committee as it seeks to engage stakeholders within the vital sector. The committee is slated to be operational commencing on Monday, July 2nd 2012.

Minister Baptiste is of the belief that the committee will be able have the document prepared and ready for his signature within a short period of time.

If implemented, these new regulations within the Fisheries Division will give officials the power to effect a closed season for fishing and crack down on illegal practices in the sector.
