Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School to host first pageant

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SIX young ladies of the Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School (CTCS) will, on Saturday (July 7), be gracing the stage in an explosion of talent and beauty as they soar above and beyond expectations.

Kyra Matthew, Phillicia Wattley, Melony Greene, Khadija Davis, Kenesha Davis, and Shaqkesha Joseph will be taking those in attendance on an enchanting journey as they vie for the title of Miss CTCS 2012.

The ladies will be appearing in five segments, - fanfare, introductory speech, creative wear, talent and evening wear - the latter four will be judged.

Head of Advertising and Promotion at CTCS Sylvester Dore explained that genesis of the show.

“The girls themselves came up with the idea of having a Miss CTC pageant. The school thought it was a good idea and decided to facilitate them in this venture.”

Dore said that this pageant will help not only the girls who are participating but all of the students that attend CTCS in terms of promoting the idea of special education.

"They want the public to know that they can contribute to society not only in terms of showcasing their talent but as citizens who can be incorporated into society as persons who can succeed and excel at what they do.”

Dore informed that the contestants are proud to be representing their school despite their disabilities, stating that two of them are hearing-impaired and will be using sign language as a means of communication.

He also revealed that the ladies are shy but are thrilled to be participating in the pageant noting that over time they have been getting more comfortable and that he sees them overcoming their shyness.

"They have been practicing everyday and are looking forward to the night of the show,” he said.

Dore is encouraging all persons to come out and support the show as the school strives to raise awareness of the CTCS and the role it plays in developing disabled persons to lead productive lives.

The pageant will be held on the grounds of the Dr. William Connor Primary School at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children and are available for purchase at the Cotton-Thomas Thomas Comprehensive School.
