BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – KALIA HUGGINS the reigning National Carnival Queen will compete in the Miss Carival Pageant this Friday, July 6, at Carnival City in St. Vincent as part of the Vincy Mas celebrations.
Huggins left on July 2nd for the Spice island and while there she and the other contestants will participate in a number of pre-show activities.
This year, the theme of the pageant is ‘Miss Carival 2012 – 27 Years of Exquisite Pageantry – 1985-2012’.
The countries participating include Anguilla, Barbados, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Iantavian Queeley, 2010-2011, St. Kitts-Nevis National Queen and the reigning Miss Carival is also in St. Vincent where she will hand over the crown to her new successor.
The delegates will compete in four judged segments - Swim Wear, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview but they will also appear onstage in two other segments - Fanfare and the introductory appearance in National Wear.
The First Citizens Group Miss Carival Beauty Pageant has as some of its objectives, to foster greater linkages and bonds between the many islands, to encourage contestants, chaperones and persons attending the pageant to return to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and to showcase the beauty and diversity of Caribbean young women.
Queeley ended the 14 year hiatus last year, as it had been that long since the Federation had produced a winner of that show when she captured the title.
