BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – STUDENTS, fellow teachers and education officials felt a common pang of grief on learning of the sudden death of Dr. Bertram Hudson Ross on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, who at 58 seemed to have so much more to give and whom they felt had gone too soon.

Dr. Ross, a native of St. Kitts was educated in St. Kitts and held the post of Principal of the CFB College here in the nineties prior to migrating to Tortola and then to the USA where he continued his career in education.

A devoted educator, Bertram Ross constantly encouraged pupils to develop their full potential and he was indeed a role model for them.

He was a Fulbright scholar and a graduate of Ohio University where he attained a PhD in education.

He is fondly remembered as an inspiration by students of the Cayon High School, Sandy Point High School and the CFB College where he taught.

His loss is also deeply mourned by the students of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in North Carolina where he taught Chemistry.

A man of quiet dignity who made a lasting difference in the lives of his students, Dr Ross’s legacy can be taken from the tributes paid to him by his students. The two tributes below are typical of the scores that are pouring in to the website dedicated to receiving memories of him.

    From Stephen Maimone:

“I always thought of Dr. Ross as a role model; he was a very inspirational man who always saw people as the best they could be and helped them push towards that. He helped me figure out what I want to pursue in my future and I will work to make him proud. He was the best teacher I have ever known. I will miss you Dr. Ross!

    From Ken Clifton:

“St. Kitts and Nevis has lost an unsung hero. Many of us Sandy Point students and athletes are better off today because of the influence and mentoring of Dr. Ross.”

Dr. Ross is survived by his wife: Dawne Ross, two daughters - Ryanne and Caitiana; two sons - Hudson and David; a daughter in law and one granddaughter.

SKNVibes extends heartfelt sympathy to his wife and entire family and records with deep appreciation the sterling contribution Dr. Bertram Hudson Ross made to his country.

    May his soul be blessed.
