SCASPA captures Novaport Cup Award

Press Release (SCASPA)

Basseterre, St. Kitts – July 6th, 2012 (SCASPA):  The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) has been awarded the Novaport Cup by the Port Management of the Caribbean (P.M.A.C.). This award was presented at the Annual General Meeting of P.M.A.C held in Barbados from June 27 – 29, 2012, with 9 ports in attendance.

SCASPA was able to impressively meet all the qualifying criteria for capturing the coveted cup from its 2011 holder, Barbados.  Qualifying criteria include, but not limited to, meeting benchmarks in port efficiency, standards and best practices and profit ratings. When a comparative analysis was done with PMAC members for the period 2011-2012, SCASPA’s rating was second to none.

In adjudicating the award, the Caribbean Maritime Institute noted of SCASPA, “Despite a decrease in cargo volumes, an increase in revenue per ton was recorded. This combined with a reduction in expenses and a significant positive movement from a loss position in 2010 to a net profit in 2011, makes this port the most improved performer for 2011”.

SCASPA’s high level of improved efficiency in 2011 surpassed that of the ports of Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Lucia, French St. Martin, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname.

In commenting on the award Chief Executive Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Jonathan Bass expressed that the Authority received the award for the second time within the last five years, adding, “I am extremely proud that the Authority received this prestigious award for the second time within the last five years. I want to commend the past Chief Executive Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Terrence Crossman and past Chairman of SCASPA, Mr. Linkon Maynard, management and staff for their outstanding performance in 2011. I am looking forward to SCASPA performing at a very high level in 2012 so that we can retain this prestigious award”.

Award winning SCASPA will host the next General Meeting of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean in 2013.
