Press Release (SCASPA)

Basseterre, St. Kitts – July 6th, 2012 (SCASPA):  The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority has refurbished the runway at the Robert L. Bradshaw International airport (RLBIA). The repair, which began on July 5, 2012 and ended July 6, 2012 at 11 in the morning, increased friction levels on the runway to ensure the smooth landing of aircraft of any type.

According to Airport Manager, Mr. Elsworth Warner, “the need for repairing the runway was a necessity for SCASPA. The asphalt on a section of the runway was removed and replaced. The work was successfully completed by the Public Works department of St. Kitts.”

Mr. Warner additionally indicated that the repair did not affect the arrival of flights to St. Kitts. “The repair did not affect the flight schedule of any airline operational at the airport. Only LI504 and LI503 did not arrive in St. Kitts because of airline operational issues.”

SCASPA will continue to make upgrades to the airport infrastructure to meet the demands of incoming passenger numbers, to comply with international aviation standards and to assist the islands tourism industry.
