Thieves break light bulb and use window to illegally enter and steal from Dental Clinic

    Over $1 000 cash stolen

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THIEVES are on the prowl again, this time breaking into Dr. Keith Blake and Associates Dental Clinic and making off with over $1 000 in both US and EC currency.

The break-in occurred sometime last evening (July 5) or early this morning (July 6).

Speaking with Dr. Ravi Chinnaswamy, a dentist at the Clinic, he recalled the morning's event.

"I locked up the office at about 5:45 p.m. yesterday - windows, doors - everything was locked. There was some money in the office that was collected after we had already gone to the bank earlier in the day. When we left, everything was in order.

"I received a call from the lawyer next door this morning; she told me that the window to the office was opened. When the receptionist and I got here we saw the window opened and when we got inside, that is when we realised we were robbed."

Chinnaswamy said that upon reaching inside of the building, they observed the magazines and information leaflets scattered about on the floor, the draws to the desks in the offices were opened, and the cabinets where the dental equipment was kept were all opened and ransacked.

He went on to state that the individual(s) that broke in stole both US and EC currency totaling EC $1 130.

The dentist explained that, from observation, it appears as though the thieves came through the window that is located at the front portion of the business.

"It seems as though they came through the front window. The shutters were opened and tampered with from the outside, and on the inside, a chair was used to prop the window open."

"It also seems as though they were only looking for money and maybe prescription drugs too because they also searched through the cabinets where the drugs and various pieces of  equipment  are kept but they did not find anything there so they just took the money," he said.

He also said that even though he lost a fairly large amount of funds, he is thankful that the thieves did not steal other valuables such as the computers and television.

The dentist informed that the matter was reported to the police and officers did show up in a timely manner to investigate.

Chinnaswamy said that this is the first time his business has been broken into but he will definitely be taking precautions to secure the building so as to avoid another or worse situation.
