BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SATURDAY (July 7) was truly a special night for the six young ladies who vied for the title of Queen of Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School (CTCS), as they definitely soared above and beyond expectations.

Accumulating a total of 466.5 points and winning only one segment, Khadija Davis who represented the sports discipline, Athletics, walked away with the crown.

She topped her five competitors - Kyra Matthew who represented Bocce, Phillicia Wattley who represented Floor Hockey, Melony Greene who represented Horseback Riding, Kenesha Davis who represented Football, and Shaqkesha Joseph who represented Table Tennis.

Khadija copped the Best Talent segment dancing to R. Kelly's ‘Sound of Victory’ in which she sent a message that despite having disabilities, those who are described as "special" could still be victorious in their endeavours as long as they put their minds to it.

Despite not being victorious in any of the segments, Kenesha Davis was awarded the First Runner-up position.

Shaqkesha Joseph was adjudged Second Runner-up and she also won the Best Introductory Speech and Best Creative Wear segments.

For the latter segment, Joseph modelled a female table-tennis wear. The white long-sleeved jacket was made entirely of plastic and, when taken off, revealed a knee length green top, yellow bottom baby doll dress also made from plastic.

Capturing the Third Runner-up position was Kyra Matthew who was also adjudged Miss Photogenic.

She also won the award for Best Evening Wear, donning a long royal blue one-strap gown. The strap was made of flowers while the dress, fitting snugly and glittering from bust to waist, was ruffled from waist to ankles.

The pageant, which was held at Dr. William Connor Primary School in front of a relatively large crowd, got off to a late start with the six beauties appearing onstage in their opening number, the Fanfare, where they performed their choreographed dance.

Side performances included appearances by Footsy and Sweet Sister Sensia, the school's Drum Core as well as the school's dance group.

The evening's host was Calypso Reggie who was ably assisted by two females, while musical entertainment was provided by DJ Buckley.
