BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DEFENDING CHAMPS of the 27th OECS/ECCB Under-23 Netball Tournament, St. Kitts, continued their dominance of the sports discipline when on Saturday (July 7) they defeated St. Lucia, trounced Grenada yesterday and blew away Antigua and Barbuda this morning.

The championship is being held in Grenada and, playing their first game on Saturday evening, the Sugar City Girls defeated St. Lucia 56-43. On the following evening, they whipped their hosts 50-45.

However, their best game was played this morning when they blew away Antigua and Barbuda 71-29.

According to Kishawn Thomas of GBN Television News, a sluggish play by Antigua and Barbuda had left much needed room for the Sugar City Girls to move ahead in the first quarter.

“By the second quarter, the Antiguans upped their momentum but not enough to give them a third win,” Thomas added.

Team St. Kitts will be looking for its fourth win when the girls come up against Montserrat this evening.

Meanwhile, St. Vincent and the Grenadines has shown great signs of improvement after losing their opening game 21-77 to Antigua and Barbuda on Saturday evening.

The SVG girls got their first victory on the following evening when they whipped the St. Lucians 44-30. This win seemed to have motivated them as they removed all stumbling blocks and demolished their counterparts from Montserrat 71-29.

Team SVG is scheduled to play against team Grenada this evening.

This evening, the Dominicans will be seeking their second victory when they come up against Antigua and Barbuda.

They won their first game this morning 39-34 playing St. Lucia.

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank has been the major sponsor of the OECS Under-23 Netball Tournament. And according to management of the financial institution, the ECCB has been demonstrating its commitment to promoting excellence in sports among the region’s young people through its sponsorship of this tournament for the past 22 years.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Thursday (July 12).
