CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – POLICE on Nevis yesterday (July 17) arrested one man and are seeking the public’s assistance in their hunt for two others, who are suspects in two unrelated burglaries that have caused a number of persons to seek medical attention.

A release from the Public Relations Office of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force states that early yesterday morning officers from the Nevis Division had responded to two calls for assistance.

One of the calls originated from the Hamilton Estate home of a couple, who told the police that two males had entered their home where they had an altercation and suffered injuries during the process.

“Medical treatment was administered to the residents, but they were not hospitalised,” the release added.

It also stated that the police had later that day arrested one male and are actively seeking the other man, who is known to them.

The other call originated from Gingerland where it was reported that a male burglar had entered a home and injured the occupant.

Police informed that the injuries were non-life-threatening, but the resident was hospitalised for observation.

The release stated that the suspect in this incident is known and the police are actively seeking him at this time. However, the names of the suspects in both incidences would be released once formal charges have been filed.

“We deeply regret the harm that has been caused to the individuals, which we also extend to their families. As law enforcement officers, we are committed to the safety of island residents and guests as well as ensuring that the persons responsible for these reprehensible acts are held accountable for their actions.

“While these incidences are very unfortunate, I am pleased to report that we were able to act quickly and decisively to secure the suspects,” said Commissioner C. G. Walwyn. “Our officers arrived at both scenes rapidly and we are utilizing all of the resources at our disposal, including our recently acquired highly-trained police dog, to bring these matters to the swiftest possible conclusion.”

The police are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward and report it soonest. This request, the police added, would be held with the strictest confidentiality and it could be done anonymously.
