Press Release (BVI)

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI,  July 18th, 2012   The Department of Waste Management is assuring the Jost Van Dyke community that it is actively working to address the current garbage collection concerns on the island.

Yesterday the Department received a report of accumulated garbage in Little Harbor and White Bay. The accumulated garbage resulted in a fly outbreak on the island which affected the community, especially restaurant owners.

Manager of the Department of Waste Management, Mr. Anslem Myers travelled to Jost Van Dyke and investigated the reports. Speaking with the Department of Information and Public Relations Mr. Myers stated, “Six cases of fly bait have been sent to the island. This bait will be placed around the bins and given to restaurant owners.” Additionally, the dumpsite will be cleared.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Department of Waste Management deeply regret the inconvenience caused to the JVD community. They wish to assure the community that measures are being implemented to prevent future reoccurrences.

The Department of Waste Management is responsible for garbage collection and disposal in the Territory and will endeavour to provide leadership that promotes a healthy and clean environment.
